The Hope Garden and the Healing Garden occupy the outdoor spaces between the north and west sides of the building and the shore of Tranquility Lake. The garden area can be equally enjoyed from the interior of the facility, or from the central patio overlook adjacent to the central rotunda. The design included a generous curvilinear walkway through the gardens to allow patients, family, and staff the opportunity to stroll in the midst of colors, textures, and fragrances of the intricate plantings. Large rounded boulders are grouped to provide pleasing focal elements amidst the calming weeps of ornamental grasses, perennials, and flowering shrubs. The plantings were selected by the landscape architect to provide a constantly changing display of color and to attract birds and butterflies within close view of the patients and staff.
